The medium-to coarse-grained "yellow Main sandstone" dating from the Rhaetian period is extracted from Heilgersdorf Quarry in the Coburg district of Bavaria. Dimensional stones measuring up to 6 m³ can be produced because of the favourable geological conditions here. Heilgersdorf sandstone is suitable for making natural stone facades and was used, for example, for the Behördenzentrum (administrative centre) in Frankfurt.
Many historic buildings in the region of Bamberg and Coburg are built of "yellow Main sandstone".
