Marble is a limestone and it is not as hard as granite. Recently marble is featuring more and more in kitchen media and more particularly with a brushed finish as can be seen with the marron emperador brushed finish kitchen displayed in Marble Marron Emperador Dark.
The brushed finish is practical as long as it is understood that the stone will not have an even surface and must have the standard sealer applied after manufacture. A polished marble is more porous than granite and generally lighter in colour making them more susceptible to everyday household stains particularly coffee, citrus fruits, dyes and red wine. Marble is not hard as granite and therefore more susceptible to scratching.
Marble is normally recommended for bathroom vanity units as opposed to kitchen worktops as there is generally more activity in the kitchen for longer periods of time.
