67 Zona Mossa
The quarry n. 67 “Zona Mossa” on mount Betogli is mentioned by Emanuele Repetti in the essay On the Apuan Alp and the Carrara marbles of 1820.
This is the way Repetti describes the stone extracted there: “The marble of the quarry of Mossa, placed between the peaks of Poggio Silvestro and Betogli, compared to them, are poorer of metal ramifications, made of finer grain, whiter mass, more beautiful and translucent; which confirms the observations made by Patrin, namely that the lower deposits in the primitive calcareous mountains are generally much more beautiful and pure than those closer to the top”.
