Nero d'Avola is an asphalt stone , commonly called Stone Pitch, generated by layers of limestone impregnated with bitumen whose mineralization reaches the thickness of tens of meters . E ' characterized by the color " brown " in irregular patches which are occasionally clear or whitish streaks .
The first evidence of the working of this stone dates back to pre-Hellenic times : some sarcophagi found in the southern suburbs of the city ' of Ragusa , testify to the use of indigenous peoples.
It was then widely used for realizations of baroque palaces of the end of '600 / '700 and early churches in the territory of Ragusa where you can still see the beauty unchanged due to the particular characteristics of resistance and impermeability of the material.
In recent years, is used not only in the field of restoration , even furnishing showrooms and exhibition spaces , for coating the inner walls of shops and highly regarded.
