Worked English limestone, Architectural features, Construction materials, Fireplaces, Flooring
This has remained such a classic fire piece due to its ability to sit so well with traditional English décor yet it also compliments the crisp, clean surrounds of a modern room setting. It is versatile too, often being used without the mantle to simply frame the fire opening or with a plinth course between the head or lintel stone and the mantle - giving more stature to the design.
The surround can be ordered in a choice of the following English Limestones –
Creeton Silver Bed Great Tew Ironstone Bath Stone Cotswold Cream Ancaster Weatherbed
The hearth can be supplied in the same limestone as the surround or in York Sandstone - a harder stone than limestone and better suited to those situations where solid fuels are to be regularly used, when higher temperatures will be created and there there may be more intense wear to the hearth.
