Kelheimer Auerkalk (Limestone)
Kelheimer Auerkalk is about 145 to 150 million years old. The quarry in Oberau between Kelheim and Essing lies within the Weltenburg reef mass. Kelheimer Auerkalk is an unlayered coral reef limestone with embedded coral and fossil fragments as well as fine lime sediments which have solidified over time and thereby created a compact, robust limestone. Due to its resistance to any kind of weather effects – especially frost – this stone is suitable for various kinds of plate and massive constructions both indoors and outdoors.
