Extracted from the same quarries as Arabescato, purple breccia , also called Calacata Viola , has a background color ranging from crystalline white to cream to light gray and is distinguished from Arabescato marble by its purple-coloured veins . It often has oval motifs with sometimes green or pink veins with hints of gold.
A high-quality material used in design projects, breccia is suitable for many different types of use, both modern and classic, from high-quality flooring to ventilated walls, from internal cladding to use in public areas such as parks and building structures.
Used in numerous constructions since Roman times, during the Renaissance it was also called Breccia Medicea, as it was widely used by Cosimo I de Medici, lord of Florence who had a monopoly on the quarries. The Medici Breccia became the symbol of his power, being used to adorn the Florence Cathedral, Palazzo Pitti and the Medici Chapels. Even today, when visiting the main museums of Florence, it is common to come across the Calacata Viola embellishing the magnificent masterpieces housed in them.
